A Serious Rhyme

I wrote this for a writing assignment. I hope ya’ll have a lovely week. I’m in beautiful Pennsylvania for the weekend; we came for my uncle’s funeral. It’s nice to see friends again.
This is not a funny rhyme,
One that makes you roll around on the floor,
Holding your sides;
No,
This is not a funny rhyme.
This is not a sad rhyme,
One that makes you cry in the privacy,
Dabbing your eyes;
No,
This is not a sad rhyme.
This is a serious rhyme,
One that makes you think back,
Thinking of the old times;
Yes,
This is a serious rhyme.
Minor keys rattling like dimes
In the console of my mind,
Making me miss the good times,
The lost times.
I taste sour limes,
The kind you slice into a cherry lime-ade,
Your face puckering as you taste the sour;
Smoothing out as the sweet slides in.
I feel like I’m climbing over a fence,
Committing a break-in crime;
Breaking into locked up memories.
I’m about to burn those memories,
It’s about time,
To give up the years, to give up
And let God smooth out the pain.
The sour tart limes, melding into sweet cherries.

G’day.
