One September Night

Happy Anniversary to my uncle and aunt. I hope you have many more blessed years together.

In September, one day, we had company for supper. We ate around a fire, and afterwards there was a ball game for the youth at a different place. When me and my brother came home, company had left but the coals were still glowing. The night was still young and alive and I wanted to roast marshmallows. So we roasted marshmallows and stared into the fire and talked. It was a clear night. The stars were bright and they seemed to hang low, heavy with cosmic dust. The perfect evening for poetry inspiration.

Deep,

Flickering red licks

Blackness,

Wavering shadows

Chase the red.

Night gems.

Light,

Sparking ash rises;

Dissipates.

Clinging backdrop

Orange into Red.

Night gems.

Starry,

Twinkling points of

Clusters.

Gazing down

And back up again.

Night gems.

LP 2019.

A good Friday to ya’ll.
