Redemption: An Allegory

You are crouching in the shadowed corners,

Your bones are broken and your powerful

Wings are featherless and hanging limply,

And you are almost broken,

Like your broken bones,

And your abased wings.

You hiss at me when I step into the room,

You crouch further into yourself and try to hide

But I am powerful and burning with light,

And that unbroken part,

That tiny spark,

That drop of strength.

I wait for you to rise and finally you untangle,

And try to spread your wings and you brace

Against the wall with one hand and look at me,

And I see that,

A little fire,

Shining in your eyes.

I step towards you and slowly extend my hand,

You hesitate and then you place your hand in mine

And cry out as my fire and light spear you,

And you finally heal,

Your bones pop back,

Your wings span the room.

The flames burn you and you keen in pain,

You sob in gasps and tears leak down

And then you straighten and are fully healed,

You are finally free,

You are strong again,

You are healed again.

So we step back into the light of the world,

And fly into the blue of the sky and the rush of wind

Is familiar to your golden feathered wings,

You are free,

You are free,

You are free.
